Handed in my notice at work. Said I’m going to be a freelance writer – medical web content and such. Also going to be an agency nurse to keep a bit of semi-guaranteed income for, you know, food and shelter and to clothe my children. Pretty sure I’ll make a living writing… the internet is massive and everyone is obsessed with their health. Feeling positive.
Giving up working grueling physical 13 hour shifts is a great idea, obviously, but I’m aware that replacing them with a job where I sit on my arse and drink tea and look at stuff on the internet might not be good for me, physically. I probably won’t get a bad back as much, but I’ll definitely get fatter. I’m already a bit fat anyway. I’ve just downloaded an app that’s meant to get you running. Like the ‘Couch to 5k’ one, but the ‘Zombies, Run!’ version. It very gently eases non-runners into running with easy-peasy interval training, but with the added incentive of being chased by zombies or being on very important missions in a post-apocalyptic tribal dystopian future. I’m a sucker for gamification. I’m going to do the 8 week training programme – coincidentally the length of my notice period for work, and will emerge from the cocoon of salaried employment a svelte and agile freelance butterfly, flitting from one nectar-filled assignment to the next, never having to get up at 6am, never working Christmas, never losing a shoe in a puddle of particularly adherent COPD sputum.
“never losing a shoe in a puddle of particularly adherent COPD sputum.” – Quite possibly the best line I had hoped to read Lainie! Much love and congrats on your amazing decision.. x
